anecdote about Ninilchik, Ak.

Ninilchik is a beautiful place on the Kenai Peninsula with many resources, attractions, wonderful people and a rich history to offer those who wish to visit or wish to know us through other means. One particular anecdote I will share with you is about the Ninilchik Lady Wolverines, and it is truly historical. Dan Leman, related to former Lt. Governor Loran Leman and a long time Ninilchik family, coached the Lady Wolverines from 1990-2008. During that time the Lady Wolverines won 372 of 409 varsity basketball games...a whopping 91%. This impressive win record included two winning streaks that stretched 57 games and 98 games. Ninilchik won eight State 2A basketball titles and 13 consecutive Regional Championships in that period. The prestigous Alaska 2A Player of the Year award came from this team nine times by seven girls during his 18 year tenure as coach. Coach Leman won the Alaska State Coach of the Year numerous times and credits Ninilchik's unbelievable perseverance in high school basketball to a strong community
